How we price every move

Everything starts with cubic feet. Each item in the catalog carries a real volume, a three-seat sofa is 65 cu ft, a medium box is 3 cu ft, and your line haul is your total volume times the rate for your move date. Local moves bill a 200 cu ft minimum, long distance a 300 cu ft minimum, so very small moves are still worth a truck and crew.

Local line haul is priced per cubic foot by demand tier: Best Price dates run $1.00, Standard $1.20, Busy $1.50, and Very Busy $2.00 per cu ft. The start and end of each month are the busiest. The calendar in the calculator shows every date color-coded before you commit, so a flexible mover can save real money by sliding a few days.

Mileage is rounded up to the nearest 10 billing miles and priced in flat tiers: under 9 miles is free, up to 190 miles runs $3 per mile, and longer runs $4 per mile. On long distance window deliveries only the local pickup leg is charged here, because the highway haul is already inside the per-cubic-foot rate.

Trucks pay real bridge and tunnel tolls, so estimates carry a flat zone line by geography: $45 for NYC boroughs, $65 for Connecticut, upstate New York, and Staten Island, $75 for most of New Jersey, and $95 for deep south Jersey. Moves entirely on Long Island carry none.

Ground floor and elevator access cost nothing. Walk-up flights each add a charge that scales with your volume, with higher per-flight pricing once a move passes four and again at seven total flights, because carrying a household up stairs is genuinely the hardest part of the job. Pianos price their own stairs separately: $75 per flight upright, $100 per flight baby grand.

True interstate moves price per cubic foot with a delivery window, from $4 per cu ft for 20-day delivery to Florida and the Carolinas up to $11 per cu ft for the Pacific Northwest. Faster windows cost more per cubic foot. If you cannot wait on a window, Straight Delivery sends a dedicated 26-foot truck directly and prices like a local move over the full distance. If a delivery street cannot take a semi, a shuttle truck completes it at $1.50 per cu ft, asked about upfront.

Moving into our storage prices the move at your date rate, plus $0.70 per cubic foot per month with a $140 monthly minimum, always shown as its own recurring line and never mixed into the move total. When you know your move-out address, the calculator prices that leg too.

Every estimate ends with a 10% administration fee on the subtotal, as its own visible line. Most movers have an equivalent charge, they just do not show it until the bill. We would rather you see it before you ever type your name.
